Discover how MockScene provided realistic app interfaces for the upcoming Dutch Netflix thriller Blind Sherlock, starring Frank Lammers and Bart Kelchtermans.

When Netflix announced Blind Sherlock—a groundbreaking Dutch crime series about a blind police officer working in a wiretap unit—the production team knew they needed screens that would feel completely authentic. That's where MockScene came in.

About the series

Blind Sherlock follows Roman Mertens, a blind aspiring police officer who lands his dream job at the wiretap unit. Despite his visual impairment, Roman proves that his other senses make him an invaluable asset to the team. But as he digs deeper into his cases, he discovers that this work might be more dangerous than he ever imagined.

The series stars Bart Kelchtermans as Roman—an actor who has a visual impairment in real life, bringing authentic representation to the role. Joining him are Frank Lammers (known from Undercover and Ferry), Sigrid ten Napel, and Ayşegül Karaca. The series is created by Kristof Hoefkens and Maarten Goffin.

The challenge

"For a series centered around a wiretap unit, the screens had to be perfect," explains the production designer. "We needed monitoring software, audio visualization tools, police databases, and communication interfaces that looked completely real—but couldn't be actual government systems for obvious reasons."

The unique premise of the show added another layer of complexity: the interfaces needed to work in ways that would make sense for a visually impaired user, incorporating audio cues and accessible design patterns.

The solution

MockScene delivered custom-designed interfaces specifically for Blind Sherlock. The team created realistic wiretap monitoring systems, police database interfaces, and audio analysis software that actors could actually interact with during filming.

"What sets MockScene apart is their understanding of authenticity," notes the production team. "They didn't just make screens that look good on camera—they made interfaces that function, that respond to actor input, and that tell a story themselves."

Special attention was paid to the audio-visual elements that Roman's character would interact with, including waveform displays and accessible interface designs that added to the authenticity of the storytelling.

"MockScene delivered interfaces that perfectly captured the tension of a wiretap operation. When Frank Lammers is sitting across from Bart and those screens are running, you believe you're watching real police work unfold."
